Kindergarten shape collage

After learning about color and line we moved on to shape.  In this class our focus was geometric shapes.  The students were given pre-cut paper triangles, circles and squares which they used to create abstract geometric designs.  Before they began the project we looked at examples of abstract art.  We talked a bit about shape, contrast, pattern and how art didn't have to represent something from real life.  Other than demonstrating some basic techniques including how they could make larger shapes by combining smaller shapes, I didn't do much in the way of modeling. This project was meant to be an opportunity for them to create their own individual designs using only simple shapes and a limited color palette.
